          April 1-3 - Thirty students represented Stuart at the 2009 convention held in Lincoln.  There were an estimated 3,700 members and guests in attendance at the convention which carried the theme "Step Up Stand out."

February 6 - District X FFA held their State Degree and Proficiency Award competition in Stuart.  Stuart had eight candidates vying for their State FFA Degrees this year.  They are Ashley B, Cody D, Cody H, Bill K, Amber N, Josh O, Audrey P, and Jacki T.  Each candidate completed a state degree test and were interviewed for the degree in their respective SAE programs of Agricultural Placement and/or Production. Upon receiving the test results, their status will be known for receiving the State FFA Degree Award.  In addition, Josh O was named a District X Star in Placement.

As a FFA member, each student is required to have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Program.  Proficiency applications are completed based upon the student’s SAE work.  The Stuart FFA members entered 55 applications into the competition, with 35 receiving 1st, 2nd or 3rd place Gold awards, 4 Gold awards, 11 Silver awards, and 5 Bronze awards.  The top three Gold of each proficiency area will be forwarded on for state competition.

State Fair

     Fifteen awards were given out at the 2006 State Fair held in Lincoln.  Results:  Ag Mechanics-Gas Welding/Brazing Display Board--Cody H-Reserve Champion/Purple Ribbon, Josh O & Cody D - Blue Ribbons; Crop Range-Display Board with at least 15 range plants--Cody D & Kyle D--Purple Ribbons; Jerad M, James M, Jacob D, Andrew S, Brittany N, Logan H, Megan O, Travis O & Michelle T--Blue Ribbons; Jake P--Red Ribbon

 

Stuart Chapter Brings Home Honors from 2006 FFA Convention

     Thirty-one students represented the Stuart FFA Chapter at the 2006 Nebraska State FFA Convention held in Lincoln April 5th-7th.  There were an estimated 3,300 members and guests in attendance at the convention which carried the theme "Living to Serve."  Throughout the convention, members participated in personal development workshops, leadership skills events, career development events and attended convention ceremonies   After months of practice, members' efforts were rewarded.  Stuart qualified members in 7 of the 10 Leadership Skills Events.

Leadership Skills Events Results:  State Champion honors were awarded to the Agricultural Demonstration Team including Audrey P, Jacki T, Pat R, Josh O, Amber N (Tech), and Jake E (Tech).  Ashley B was selected as State Runner-up in Natural Resource Speaking.  A Bronze emblem was awarded to the Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of Luke O, Amber J, Lance K, Brittany N, Megan O, Logan H, Kyle D, and alternates Tommy S, Andrew S, and Travis OCody D received a Silver medal in Cooperative Speaking.  Jerad M received a Silver medal in Jr. Public Speaking.  Megan O was the recipient of a Silver medal in Creed Speaking.  Also, the Senior Parliamentary Procedure Team earned a Silver medal.  Members of the team are Emily E, Amanda M, Matt R, Tiffany M, Ashley B, and Cody D.  Another highlight for the chapter was to view two of their members on stage as state star finalists, Amanda M (Production) and Pat R (Placement).  Pat R went on to be named Nebraska's State Star in Placement.  In addition, five state degree candidates walked across the stage and received the state's highest degree bestowed upon its FFA members.  Members receiving their state degrees were Emily E, Amanda M, Matt R, Tiffany M, and Pat R.  Yet another highlight was having four members selected as proficiency finalists in five areas.  Ashley B received 1st in Agricultural Communications and 2nd in Emerging Agricultural Technology, Amanda M received 1st place in Agriculture Education, Cody H was the recipient of 3rd place in Agricultural Mechanics Design and Fabrication, and Jake E received 3rd place in Wildlife Management Placement.  The chapter received several honors at the convention.  They were recognized as a Silver emblem chapter, honored for being a $2500 NIFA grant recipient, received a Gold emblem in the area of Community Development and a Silver merit award for their safety activities.

     At the 78th State FFA Convention, high school students were involved in numerous Nebraska Agricultural Education Career Development Events. Stuart FFA Members Excel With State Degree Interviews

and District Proficiency Award Applications

On Tuesday, February 14th, District X FFA held their State Degree and Proficiency Award competition in Stuart.  Stuart had five candidates vying for their State FFA Degrees this year.  They are Matt R, Pat R, Tiffany M, Amanda M, and Emily E.  Each candidate completed a state degree test and were interviewed for the degree in their respective SAE programs of Agricultural Placement and/or Production. Upon receiving the test results, their status will be known for receiving the State FFA Degree Award.  In addition, Pat R was named a District X Star in Placement and Matt R was chosen as an alternate.  Amanda M was named a District X Star in Production and Emily E was named an alternate.

          As a FFA member, each student is required to have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Program.  Proficiency applications are completed based upon the student’s SAE work.  The Stuart FFA members entered 49 applications into the competition, with 24 receiving 1st, 2nd or 3rd place Gold awards, 4 Gold awards, 14 Silver awards, and 7 Bronze awards.  The top three Gold of each proficiency area will be forwarded on for state competition. District X Leadership Skills Events Contest

     January 11th - The students had an outstanding day with three teams and four individual events qualifying for the state contest.

    The Stuart FFA Chapter claimed first place honors in three team events. Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team members were Luke O, Lance K, Brittany N, Megan O, Amber J, Kyle D, and Logan H.  Alternates were Tommy S, Travis O, and Andrew S.   Senior Parliamentary Law Team members were Matt R, Tiffany M, Emily E, Amanda M, Ashley B, and Cody D. Ag Demonstration Team members were Pat R, Josh O, Audrey P, Jacki T, and Kristen W.  Tech team - Jake E and Amber N.  The chapter was awarded the District X Champion Sweepstakes plaque at the conclusion of the day's events.

     On March 3rd, 2004, the Stuart agricultural education/FFA students participated in the District X Ag Ed Contests held on Northeast Community College Campus in Norfolk.  Following are the results from the various contests:

Stuart FFA Attends 76th State Convention

     Twenty-nine students represented Stuart at the 2004 Nebraska State FFA Convention held at Cornhusker Hotel in downtown Lincoln March 31 - April 2nd.  There were an estimated 3,100 members and guests in attendance at the convention which carried the theme "Create your Legacy."  Throughout the convention, members participated in personal development workshops, leadership skills events, career development events and attended convention ceremonies   After months of practice, members' efforts were rewarded.  Stuart had an all time record of qualifying members in 8 of the 10 Leadership Skills Events.

Leadership Skills Events Results:  A Gold emblem was awarded to the Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of Ashley B, Kristen W, Zach W, Jenny L, Audrey P, Cody D, Cody H, and alternates Josh O, Amber N, and Billy KAnita E was selected as the State Champion in Job Interview.  Ashley B was awarded a 4th Gold medal in Creed Speaking. Sarah E received a Gold in Natural Resources Speaking.  Receiving 4th Gold was Beth K in Cooperative Speaking.  Emily E received a Silver emblem in Jr. Public Speaking.  Also, the Senior Parliamentary Procedure Team earned a Silver medal.  Members of the team are Anita E, Chelsey B, Nicole B, Matt R, Tiffany M, Emily E, and Brett K. The Agricultural Demonstration Team earned a Bronze emblem.  The team included Ross S, Lyle B, Ashley N, Rachael V.  Another highlight of the convention for the chapter was to watch their eight state degree candidates walk across the stage and receive the state's highest degree bestowed upon its FFA members.  Members receiving their state degrees were Nicole B, Sarah E, Anita E, Beth K, Brett K, Ashley N, Justine O, and Rachael V Anita E was also named a state star finalist in Agricultural Placement.  Four members were selected as proficiency finalist in five areas  Anita E received 1st place in Beef Production Placement and 2nd place in Home and Community Development.  Matt R earned 1st place honors in Forage Production Placement.  Sarah E received 3rd place in Agricultural Sales Placement and Nicole B received 3rd place in Emerging Agricultural Technology.  Chapter members and supporters in attendance also enjoyed the State FFA Choir performances throughout convention in which Brett K was a participant.

Area Range Judging Contest

    On September 15th, 13 sophomore and 4 junior agricultural education students and FFA members found themselves in the middle of a pasture near Butte. Contestants identified 24 range plants, evaluated 3 range sites, worked out a ranch map problem, and answered 10 multiple choice questions.

Junior results (126 participants): Cody D-19th, Cody H-21st, Ashley B-25th, Kristen W-43rd, Audrey P-67th, Amber N-70th, Josh O-72nd, Jenny L-83rd, and Jacki T-110th. Team results (34 teams): Cody D, Cody H, Kristen W, and Amber N - 9th; Ashley B, Audrey P, Josh O, and Jenny L - 16th.

Pre-District Livestock Judging

     On October 11th students had the opportunity to judge a class each of market lambs and breeding ewes, a class of breeding gilts, a class of market steers and a class of Angus bulls.  Students evaluated frame size and muscle on 6 head of beef, judged a class of cull-keep heifers, and evaluated such items as backfat, loin-eye area, rib-eye area, % of muscle, grades, and yields on individual sheep, cattle, and swine.

Stuart FFA Members Excel With State Degree Interviews

and District Proficiency Award Applications

     October 20 - The district X livestock contest consisted of placing two classes each of sheep, beef and swine, as well as, scoring ten head of beef cattle for frame and muscle, and selecting a cull-keep class of ewes.  Students also completed a live animal evaluation on one market lamb, market heifer, and market hog.  All students also answered five questions on each of three classes.  The seniors ended the day with the opportunity to defend their placings by presenting a set of oral reasons on one class of beef, sheep, and swine.  This activity does not only test livestock knowledge but also speaking ability, observation skills, listening skills, and decision making skills, as well as note taking and the processing of information.

Stuart FFA Members Excel With State Degree Interviews

and Proficiency Award Applications

    On February 12th, District X FFA held their State Degree and Proficiency Award competition. Stuart had two candidates vying for their State FFA Degrees this year. The two candidates, Jess H and Brad W, each completed a state degree test and were interviewed for the degree in their respective SAE programs of Agricultural Placement. In addition, Brad W was named a District X Star in Agricultural Placement.

    As a FFA member, each student is required to have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Program. The Stuart FFA members entered thirty-four applications into the competition, with 17 receiving Gold awards, 10 Silver awards, and 7 Bronze awards. Of the 17 Gold, 9 were named top of the District, also known as 1st Gold awards. Students receiving 1st Gold were: Nicole B (Emerging Ag Technology, Agricultural Services, and Home & Community Development), Emily E (Ag. Members From Stuart FFA Chapter Recognized at 

State Convention

   The Stuart FFA Chapter attended the State FFA Convention that was held April 2nd-4th in Lincoln. Numerous members were recognized with awards for their efforts throughout the past year and in developing exceptional individual programs.

    Two FFA members from the Stuart Chapter were recipients of the State FFA Degree. The State FFA Degree is the highest degree the state bestows upon its members. Those who received this honor were Jess H and Brad W. The Stuart FFA Chapter was also pleased that Brad W was selected as a State Star Finalist in Ag Placement. This program recognized the top twenty-four individuals from across the state for their excellence in developing an outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience Program. Brad was one of 11 finalists in the area of Ag Placement. In addition, Brad has been selected to be a member of the State FFA Choir, which will perform throughout the convention.

    Nicole B was selected as one of three state finalists in the proficiency areas of Emerging Ag Technology and Agricultural Services. The state star and proficiency finalists underwent interviews in Lincoln as they vied to be Nebraska’s state stars and proficiency winners.

75th State Convention

   The 75th Nebraska State Convention proved to be an exciting one for the Stuart FFA Chapter. Twenty-six students represented Stuart at the 2003 Nebraska State FFA Convention held April 2nd-4th. Throughout the convention, members participated in personal development workshops, leadership academies, leadership skills events, career development events and attended convention ceremonies where they witnessed motivational and inspiring speakers.

    After months of practice, members’ efforts were rewarded. Friday night brought about intense anticipation and great excitement as the results were announced. Results for the Leadership Skills Events were as follows. State Champion honors go to the Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of Matt R, Pat R, Emily E, Tiffany M, Kylee A, Amanda M, Will H and alternates Ross S and Brandon PAnita E was selected as the State Champion Senior Public Speaker. Anita has earned the right to represent Nebraska at the National Public Speaking competition in Louisville, Kentucky, in October. The Agricultural Demonstration Team earned the State Runner-up honors with their demonstration. The team included Jess H, Lyle B, Ashley N Rachael V and tech coordinators Beth K and Marc G. Sarah E received 3rd Gold in Cooperative Speaking. Also receiving a Gold medal was Amanda W in Natural Resources Speaking. Emily E was awarded a Silver medal in Creed Speaking. Also, the Senior Parliamentary Law Team earned a Silver medal. Members of the team are Nicole B, Chelsey B, Anita E, Justine O, Brett K and Chris S.

    Members receiving their state degrees were Jess H and Brad W. In addition, it was very exciting for the chapter to view one of their members as a state star finalist, namely Brad W (Agricultural Placement). Yet another highlight was having Nicole B as a proficiency finalist in two areas. Nicole, a junior member, received 2nd place in Agricultural Services and 3rd place in Emerging Agricultural Technology.

    The chapter also received several honors at the convention. First, they were honored for receiving a Governor’s Excellence Award. This award included a $1,000 grant, which will be used for the Murphy Building restoration project. The chapter was the recipient of a Silver award for its activities completed throughout the past year. In addition, the chapter received two Silvers for safety and community development.

Area Range Judging Contest

     Six sophomore agricultural education students and FFA members found themselves in the middle of a pasture near Norfolk. Contestants identified 24 range plants, evaluated 3 range sites, worked out a ranch map problem, and answered 10 multiple choice questions. Junior division results: Matt R (22nd), Will H (49th), Tiffany M (53rd), Emily E (65th), Pat R (76th) and Amanda M (85th). Team results: Matt R, Will H and Pat R placed 13th. Tiffany M, Emily E and Amanda M placed 21st.

Pre-District Livestock Selection Contest

     October 13 - Students had the opportunity to judge a class each of market lambs and breeding ewes, a class of breeding gilts, a class of market steers and a class of Angus bulls.  Students evaluated frame size and muscle on 6 head of beef, judged a class of cull-keep heifers, and evaluated such items as backfat, loin-eye area, rib-eye area, % of muscle, grades, and yields on individual sheep, cattle, and swine.

District Livestock Selection Contest

     October 22 - The contest consisted of placing two classes each of sheep, beef and swine, as well as, scoring ten head of beef cattle for frame and muscle, and selecting a cull-keep class of replacement heifers.  Students also completed a live animal evaluation on one market lamb, market heifer, and market hog.  All students also answered five questions on each of three classes.  The seniors ended the day with the opportunity to defend their placings by presenting a set of oral reasons on one class of beef, sheep, and swine.  This activity does not only test livestock knowledge but also speaking ability, observation skills, listening skills, and decision making skills, as well as note taking and the processing of information.

District Leadership Events Contest

     December 8 - The students had an astounding day, with eight of the events qualifying for the state contest to be held in Lincoln in April. 

Following are the results of our members who participated in individual speaking events: Sarah E – 1st in Natural Resources Speaking, Anita E – 1st in Job Interview, Emily E – 1st in Jr. Public Speaking, Jenna M – Red ribbon in Extemporaneous Speaking and Ashley B - 1st in Creed Speaking.

    The Stuart FFA Chapter claimed first place honors in two team events. Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team members were Audrey P, Jenny L, Cody D, Kristen W, Zach W, Cody H and Ashley B.  Alternates:  Josh O, Amber N and Billy K. Ag Demonstration Team consisted of Ashley N, Lyle B, Rachael V and Ross S.  The Senior Parliamentary Law Team placed second and also qualified for the state competition.  Members include Chelsey B, Nicole B, Anita E, Emily E, Tiffany M, and Matt R.  Alternate:  Brett K.  The Chapter was awarded the District X Champion Sweepstakes plaque at the conclusion of the day’s events.

Stuart FFA Members Excel With State Degree Interviews

and Proficiency Award Applications

    On February 13th, District X FFA held their State Degree and Proficiency Award competition. Stuart had three candidates vying for their State FFA Degrees. They were Matt H, Justin R and Kelly M. Each of the candidates completed a state degree test and were interviewed for the degree in their respective area of Agricultural Placement.

    In addition, Justin R was named a District X Star in Agriculture Placement. As a FFA member, each student is required to have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Program. Proficiency applications are completed based on the student’s SAE work. The Stuart FFA members entered twenty-nine applications into the competition, with 20 receiving Gold awards and 9 Silver awards. Of the twenty Gold, eight were named top of the District, known as First Gold awards. Students receiving First Gold were Amanda W (Equine Science Entrepreneurship), Justin R (Beef Placement & Beef Entrepreneurship), Nicole B (Emerging Agricultural Technology & Agricultural Services), Chris S (Agricultural Mechanics Design & Fabrication), Ryan B (Agricultural Mechanics Repair & Maintenance) and Marc G (Forage Placement). Other members receiving Gold were Scott D (Beef Placement), Matt H, Anita E & Tony M (Dairy Placement), Sarah E and Brett K (Ag Sales Placement), Ashley N, Jenna M & Chelsey B (Ag Services Placement), Brad W & Kelly M (Diversified Crop Placement) and Brandon P (Forage Placement). Students receiving Silver awards were Wayne S (Ag Mechanics Repair & Maintenance), Tony K (Ag Services Placement), Lyle B, Anita E & Beth K (Beef Placement), Jess H & Ross S (Beef Placement), Anita E (Dairy Entrepreneurship) and Justine O (Sheep Placement).

    On March 6th, FFA members attended the District X Ag Ed Contest. Stuart placed 3rd overall in the sweepstakes competition among the District X schools participating. Results:

   Throughout the convention, members participated in personal development workshops, leadership academies, leadership skills events, career development events, courtesy corp. and attended convention ceremonies where they witnessed motivational and inspiring speakers.

State Horse Judging

    On June 17th, three members competed in the State FFA Horse Judging Contest. The junior division of the contest consisted of the placing of three classes of halter horses, placing four classes of performance horses, answering questions over four of the classes, giving two sets of oral reasons, and taking a horse knowledge test as a team. Members of the team were Amanda W, Rachael V and Justine O.

    On October 14th, thirty-two agricultural education students/FFA members participated in a Pre-District Livestock Selection contest. Students had the opportunity to judge a class each of market lambs and breeding ewes, a class of breeding gilts, a class of market steers and a class of Angus bulls.

    Junior Division results: Ross S – 5th, Marc G – 7th, A M – 8th, Matt R – 14th, Pat R – 18th, Brandon P – 23rd, Tiffany M – 27th, Emily E – 31st, Brad M – 36th, Will H – 47th, DJ K – 58th, Neil D – 66th, Kylee A – 100th and Marcus H – 126th. Six junior judgers placed in the top ten of individual categories: Ross S – 2nd in beef, Tiffany M – 5th in beef, Marc G – 8th in beef, Brandon P – 5th in sheep, A M – 2nd in swine and Brad M – 10th in swine.

    Senior Division also gave oral reasons on three classes of livestock. Results: Tony K – 3rd, Nicole B – 4th, Justine O – 7th, Beth K – 11th, Wayne S – 14th, Brad W – 18th, Brett K – 19th, Jenna M – 23rd, Chris S – 24th, Jess H – 31st, Ashley N – 35th, Anita E – 36th, Rachael V – 42nd, Tony M – 45th, Chelsey B – 46th, Lyle B – 51st, Paul H – 53rd and Amanda W – 73rd. Two teams placed in the top 5 – 2nd place (Wayne S, Chelsey B, Beth K & Nicole B) and 5th place (Jess H, Chris S, A N & Justine O). In addition, seven senior judgers placed in the top ten of individual categories: Nicole B – 1st in swine & 1st in evaluations, Beth K – 7th in swine & 8th in sheep, Anita E – 10th in swine & 10th in evaluations, Tony K – 1st in sheep, Brett K – 7th in sheep & 9th in reasons, Justine O – 9th in sheep and Jenna M – 3rd in evaluations.

    Junior competition results: Ross S – 33rd, Marc G - 35th, Pat R - 44th, Neil D, Marcus H & Matt R – tied for 47th, Will H – 62nd, Emily E - 74th, DJ K - 78th, and Amanda M & Tiffany M - tied for 87th. Thirty junior teams competed in the contest. The Stuart teams placed as follows: 10th place (Ross S, Marc G, Pat R & Matt R) 19th place (Neil D, Marcus H, Will H, & DJ K), and 27th place (Emily E, A M & Tiffany M).

    Senior competition results: Anita E – tied for 6th, Brad W - 13th, Amanda W - 26th, Tony K & Jess H – tied for 32nd, Chris S – 41st, A N & Lyle B – tied for 44th, Nicole B – 51st, Beth K – 52nd, Rachael V – 54th, Jenna M – 55th, Chelsey B – 78th, Paul H – 84th, Jason S – 86th, Wayne S – 88th and Tony M - 89th.
