State Degree Interviews
and
District Proficiency Award Applications
|
|
February 6 -
District X FFA held their State Degree and Proficiency Award competition in
Stuart. Stuart had eight candidates vying
for their State FFA Degrees this year. They are Ashley B, Cody D, Cody H,
Bill K, Amber N, Josh O, Audrey P, and Jacki T.
Each
candidate completed a state degree test and were interviewed for the degree in
their respective SAE programs of Agricultural Placement and/or Production. Upon
receiving the test results, their status will be known for receiving the State
FFA Degree Award. In addition, Josh O was named
a District X Star in Placement.
As a FFA
member, each student is required to have a Supervised Agricultural Experience
(SAE) Program. Proficiency applications are completed based upon the student’s
SAE work. The Stuart FFA members entered 55 applications into the competition,
with 35 receiving 1st, 2nd or 3rd place Gold
awards, 4 Gold awards, 11 Silver awards, and 5 Bronze awards. The top three Gold
of each proficiency area will be forwarded on for state competition. Students

October 18th - Twenty-eight agricultural education students/FFA members traveled to the
District X Livestock Selection Contest. There were 120 contestants in the
junior competition. Placing in the top 50 were: James

Becky R-42nd,
Jerad M-47th, and Jacob K-50th. Thirty-two teams
competed in the junior division. One team placed 5th (Jerad M, James

Stuart Chapter Brings Home Honors from 2006 FFA
Convention
|
|
Thirty-one students
represented the Stuart FFA Chapter at the 2006 Nebraska State FFA Convention
held in Lincoln April 5th-7th. There were an estimated 3,300 members and
guests in attendance at the convention which carried the theme "Living to
Serve." Throughout the convention, members participated in personal
development workshops, leadership skills events, career development events and
attended convention ceremonies
After months of practice,
members' efforts were rewarded. Stuart qualified members in 7 of the 10
Leadership Skills Events.
Leadership Skills Events Results:
State Champion
honors were awarded to the Agricultural Demonstration Team including
Audrey P,
Jacki T, Pat R,
Josh O, Amber N (Tech),
and Jake E (Tech).
Ashley B was selected as
State Runner-up
in Natural Resource Speaking. A
Bronze emblem was awarded to the Junior
Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of

Another highlight for the chapter was to view two of their members on stage as
state star finalists, Amanda M (Production) and
Pat R (Placement). Pat R went on to be
named Nebraska's State Star in Placement. In addition, five state degree
candidates walked across the stage and received the state's highest degree
bestowed upon its FFA members. Members receiving their state degrees were
Emily E, Amanda M,
Matt R, Tiffany M,
and Pat R. Yet another highlight was having
four members selected as proficiency finalists in five areas.
Ashley B received 1st in Agricultural Communications and 2nd in Emerging
Agricultural Technology, Amanda M received 1st place
in Agriculture Education, Cody H was the recipient of
3rd place in Agricultural Mechanics Design and Fabrication, and
Jake E received 3rd place in Wildlife Management
Placement. The chapter received several honors at the convention.
They were recognized as a
Silver emblem chapter, honored for being
a $2500 NIFA grant recipient, received a
Gold
emblem in the area of Community Development and a
Silver merit award for their safety
activities.

Stuart FFA Attends 77th
State Convention
|
|
Twenty-seven students
represented Stuart at the 2005 Nebraska State FFA Convention held at Cornhusker
Hotel in downtown Lincoln March 30 - April 1. There were an
estimated 3,200 members and guests in attendance at the convention which carried
the theme "Be the Difference." Throughout the convention, members
participated in personal development workshops, leadership skills events, career
development events and attended convention ceremonies
After months of practice,
members' efforts were rewarded. Stuart qualified
members in 6 of the 10 Leadership Skills Events.

emblem was awarded to the Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of

Stuart FFA Members Excel
With State Degree Interviews
and
District Proficiency Award Applications

|
On February
11th, District X FFA held their State Degree and Proficiency Award competition
in Stuart. Approximately 40 students had their records reviewed and were
interviewed for their State FFA Degree. Stuart has eight candidates vying
for their State FFA Degrees this year. They are
Brett K, Anita E,
Justine O, Nicole B,
Ashley N, Rachael V,
Beth K, and Sarah E. Each of the
candidates completed a state degree test and was interviewed for the degree in
their respective SAE programs of Agricultural Placement and/or Production.
Upon receiving the
test results, their status will be known for receiving the State FFA Degree
Award. In addition, Nicole B and
Anita E were named District X Stars in Agricultural
Placement. Their applications and records will be forwarded for state
competition.
As a FFA member, each student is required to have a Supervised Agricultural
Experience (SAE) Program. Proficiency applications are completed based upon the
student’s SAE work. The Stuart FFA members entered forty one applications into
the competition, with 19 receiving 1st, 2nd or 3rd
place Gold awards, 10 Gold awards, 9 Silver awards, and 3 Bronze awards.

Gold of each proficiency area will be forwarded on for state competition.

On October 11th
students had the opportunity to judge a
class each of market lambs and breeding ewes, a class of breeding gilts, a class
of market steers and a class of Angus bulls. Students evaluated frame size
and muscle on 6 head of beef, judged a class of cull-keep heifers, and evaluated
such items as backfat, loin-eye area, rib-eye area, % of muscle, grades, and
yields on individual sheep, cattle, and swine.

October 20 - The
district X livestock contest consisted of placing two
classes each of sheep, beef and swine, as well as, scoring ten head of beef
cattle for frame and muscle, and selecting a cull-keep class of ewes. Students also completed a live animal evaluation on one market
lamb, market heifer, and market hog. All students also answered five
questions on each of three classes. The seniors ended the day with the
opportunity to defend their placings by presenting a set of oral reasons on one
class of beef, sheep, and swine. This activity does not only test
livestock knowledge but also speaking ability, observation skills, listening
skills, and decision making skills, as well as note taking and the processing of
information.

Stuart FFA Members Excel
With State Degree Interviews
and
Proficiency Award Applications
|
|
On February 12th, District X FFA held their State Degree and Proficiency Award
competition. Stuart had two candidates vying for their State FFA Degrees this
year. The two candidates, Jess H and Brad
W, each completed a state degree test
and were interviewed for the degree in their respective SAE programs of
Agricultural Placement. In addition, Brad W was named a District X Star in
Agricultural Placement.
As a FFA member, each student is required to have a Supervised Agricultural
Experience (SAE) Program. The Stuart FFA members entered thirty-four
applications into the competition, with 17 receiving Gold awards, 10 Silver
awards, and 7 Bronze awards. Of the 17 Gold, 9 were named top of the District,
also known as 1st Gold awards. Students receiving 1st Gold
were: Nicole B (Emerging Ag Technology, Agricultural Services, and Home &
Community Development), Emily E (Ag. Processing), Rachael V (Equine Science
Production), Brad W (Diversified Crop Placement), Brandon P (Forage Placement),
Chris S (Agricultural Mechanics Design and Fabrication), and Anita E (Beef
Placement). Other members receiving Gold were: Tony M (Dairy Placement),

From Stuart FFA Chapter Recognized at
State
Convention

|
The Stuart FFA Chapter attended the State FFA Convention that was held April 2nd-4th
in Lincoln. Numerous members were recognized with awards for their efforts
throughout the past year and in developing exceptional individual programs.
Two FFA members from the Stuart Chapter were recipients of the State FFA Degree.
The State FFA Degree is the highest degree the state bestows upon its members.
Those who received this honor were Jess H and Brad
W. The Stuart FFA Chapter was
also pleased that Brad W was selected as a State Star Finalist in Ag Placement.
This program recognized the top twenty-four individuals from across the state
for their excellence in developing an outstanding Supervised Agricultural
Experience Program. Brad was one of 11 finalists in the area of Ag Placement. In
addition, Brad has been selected to be a member of the State FFA Choir, which
will perform throughout the convention.
Nicole B was selected as one of three state finalists in the proficiency areas
of Emerging Ag Technology and Agricultural Services. The state star and
proficiency finalists underwent interviews in Lincoln as they vied to be
Nebraska’s state stars and proficiency winners.

FFA Brings Home Top Honors from
75th
State Convention

The 75th Nebraska State Convention proved to be an exciting one for
the Stuart FFA Chapter. Twenty-six students represented Stuart at the 2003
Nebraska State FFA Convention held April 2nd-4th.
Throughout the convention, members participated in personal development
workshops, leadership academies, leadership skills events, career development
events and attended convention ceremonies where they witnessed motivational and
inspiring speakers.
After months of practice, members’ efforts were rewarded. Friday night brought
about intense anticipation and great excitement as the results were announced.
Results for the Leadership Skills Events were as follows. State Champion honors
go to the Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of Matt
R, Pat R, Emily E,
Tiffany M, Kylee A,
Amanda M, Will H and alternates
Ross S and Brandon P.
Anita E was selected as the State Champion Senior Public Speaker. Anita has
earned the right to represent Nebraska at the National Public Speaking
competition in Louisville, Kentucky, in October. The Agricultural
Demonstration Team earned the State Runner-up honors with their
demonstration. The team included Jess H, Lyle
B, Ashley N Rachael V and tech
coordinators Beth K and Marc
G. Sarah E received 3rd Gold in
Cooperative Speaking. Also receiving a Gold medal was Amanda W in Natural
Resources Speaking. Emily E was awarded a Silver medal in Creed Speaking. Also,
the Senior Parliamentary Law Team earned a Silver medal. Members of the

was very exciting for the chapter to view one of their members as a state star
finalist, namely Brad W (Agricultural Placement). Yet another highlight was
having Nicole B as a proficiency finalist in two areas. Nicole, a junior member,
received 2nd place in Agricultural Services and 3rd place
in Emerging Agricultural Technology.
The chapter also received several honors at the convention. First, they were
honored for receiving a Governor’s Excellence Award. This award
included a $1,000 grant, which will be used for the Murphy Building restoration
project. The chapter was the recipient of a Silver award for its activities
completed throughout the past year. In addition, the chapter received two
Silvers for safety and community development.

Six sophomore agricultural education students and FFA members found
themselves in the middle of a pasture near Norfolk. Contestants identified 24
range plants, evaluated 3 range sites, worked out a ranch map problem, and
answered 10 multiple choice questions. Junior division results:

October 13 - Students had the opportunity to judge a
class each of market lambs and breeding ewes, a class of breeding gilts, a class
of market steers and a class of Angus bulls. Students evaluated frame size
and muscle on 6 head of beef, judged a class of cull-keep heifers, and evaluated
such items as backfat, loin-eye area, rib-eye area, % of muscle, grades, and
yields on individual sheep, cattle, and swine.

District Livestock Selection
Contest |
|
October 22 - The contest consisted of placing two
classes each of sheep, beef and swine, as well as, scoring ten head of beef
cattle for frame and muscle, and selecting a cull-keep class of replacement
heifers. Students also completed a live animal evaluation on one market
lamb, market heifer, and market hog. All students also answered five
questions on each of three classes. The seniors ended the day with the
opportunity to defend their placings by presenting a set of oral reasons on one
class of beef, sheep, and swine. This activity does not only test
livestock knowledge but also speaking ability, observation skills, listening
skills, and decision making skills, as well as note taking and the processing of
information.
